On Thursday, August 18, 2022 Above Board—All Hands on Deck hosted its 4th fundraising initiative, A Starry, Starry Night, at Vinegar Hill Music Theatre in Arundel.

This year we worked in collaboration with Special Surfers, a non-profit organization that provides the opportunity for people with special needs to surf. Special Surfers hosts three events each summer on Kennebunk’s Gooch’s Beach. There is no cost to participants or their families, and all equipment and instruction is provided.  Above Board aimed to raise $30,000 to purchase much-needed surfboards, SUPs, wet suits, fins, and stabilizing chairs so Special Surfers can continue to put individuals with special needs in the water to catch their first wave. We were so pleased the fundraising event exceeded our goal and raised over $45,000.

Attendees experienced a magical night under the stars while supporting Special Surfer. They danced the night away to the pop vibes of The Carmine Band, enjoyed specialty cocktails, craft beer, regional wine and bubbles, and sampled the delicious cuisine provided by Walkers Maine and award-winning chef, Justin Walker.
